Description
Faience is originally French derived from the Italian city of Faenza in the 16th century and refers to a specific sub-section of artisan-made ceramics which have been produced in Portugal for hundreds of years. Like porcelain, Faience is formed using kaolin, a fine, soft white clay. It is a type of white ceramic, which has a ceramic mass less rich in kaolin than porcelain and is fired at a lower temperature than porcelain. After firing, faience presents a lightly-colored body which can be easily covered in a second firing with rich, colorful glazes. Finished with a brilliant glaze and topped with a natural wooden stem, the fruits in the Portuguese Faience collection are named for the special process of creation they undergo. The result is a delectable collection of glossy fruits, sharing a modern interpretation of nature’s delights.
